So, before I talking about the food at Clos Maggiore, I need to mention one thing they are famous for; their wine selection. Below is how they describe their wine offering on their website:

Our 100 page wine list has received a multitude of awards over the years including one of the highest and most prestigious accolades – ‘The Wine Spectator Grand Award’ – one of only 70 restaurants worldwide to have achieved this honour.

In 2014 we have introduced the “Coravin” wine preservation system – allowing you to experience and taste an impressive selection of rare and inaccessible wines by the glass.

I couldn’t have put it better…

Now, let’s talk FOOD!

Staff had great knowledge of the menu and catering for allergies, and they were extremely attentive and helpful! They offered to serve most of the dishes as a gluten free alternative, promising to still trying to offer 99% of the dish!

I was served with gluten-free bread, so I don’t feel like an outsider when everyone was having bread and cheese scones that smelled amazing.

I ordered the Oven Roasted & ‘Herb Smoked’ Ibérico Pork Loin with Apple & Calvados Sauce. The dish is usually served with King Edward potato, Bone Marrow & Almond Croquette, but as a gluten-free alternative, I had the chips instead. Since this dish can only be offered to share for two, the other sharing partner tried the croquettes and loved them! Another dish that was ordered was the Honey Glazed Breast of Goosnargh Duck & Crispy Duck Leg Pastilla Young Turnips, Sugar Snaps, Ruby Port Sauce. I was told it’s amazing, and I did try a piece of the honey glazed breast (YUM!). The crispy duck leg is not gluten-free so I missed that part. We also had the Truffle Mashed Potatoes side dish, which was delicious.

And finally, for a little sweet treat, we got served a selection of little desserts. I am not exactly sure what each is, but the chocolate had a minty filling, the cube was some sort of lemon jelly, and the sticks were orange covered with dark chocolate.

I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a nice dining experience. You can expect to enjoy a perfect meal with award-winning wine selection in a beautiful and cosy atmosphere, while being served by friendly and attentive staff.
